Elon Musk Breaks with Trump: “DOGE Became the Scapegoat”
Elon Musk Breaks with Trump: DOGE Fallout and His Vision for the Future
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has officially distanced himself from former President Donald Trump. In a recent CBS interview, Musk reflected on his 130-day role in the Trump 2.0 administration, particularly his leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Musk described DOGE as a "way of life" rooted in small government values but admitted feeling like a scapegoat, saying, "If something is cut, everyone blames DOGE. It's a bit unfair." He emphasized ideological differences with the Trump administration, especially regarding fiscal policies like Trump’s “big and beautiful” tax bill—which Musk said disappointed him due to its massive deficit implications.
Although he didn’t go into details to avoid controversy, Musk made it clear: “I don’t want to be held responsible for everything this administration does.”
Now, Musk is turning his full attention back to his companies—Tesla, xAI, SpaceX, Neuralink, and Starlink—stating his mission is to ensure the long-term survival of consciousness across planets, especially Mars.
Meanwhile, SpaceX’s 9th Starship test flight ended in partial failure due to engine issues, but Musk remains undeterred. His words: "Success isn’t guaranteed, but excitement is." CBS noted that this perfectly encapsulates Musk’s entire approach to innovation and risk.
