Trump Sends Troops to LA: “Liberating from Immigrant Invasion”
Trump Deploys 2,000 National Guard Troops Amid LA Immigration Protests
On June 8, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles to control escalating protests against immigration crackdowns. The demonstrations have continued for three consecutive days, with increasing concerns over public order and violent outbreaks.
Speaking from Morristown, New Jersey, President Trump emphasized that the current situation "is not a civil war", but stressed the need for military involvement to "restore law and order." While he has not invoked the Insurrection Act, Trump used Title 10, Section 12406 of the U.S. Code to federalize National Guard troops, shifting control from the state governor to the Secretary of Defense.
The President warned of "violent, rebellious mobs" trying to block federal agents involved in immigrant deportations. On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote, “LA will be liberated from the immigrant invasion. Order will be restored, illegal immigrants will be deported, and LA will be free again.”
The deployment may escalate further, as the U.S. Marine Corps stationed near LA has reportedly been placed on standby. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that Camp Pendleton Marines are prepared to support the National Guard if needed.
While the military presence has sparked further debate over civil liberties and the limits of presidential authority, the rules of engagement remain unclear, according to a New York Times report. The National Guard’s mission currently includes protecting federal property and personnel.
As tensions rise in Los Angeles, the nation watches closely. Whether this military response will defuse the situation or intensify it remains to be seen.
